Universities are looking at candidates who they can be proud of as alumnus – they’re hoping to find students who will succeed in college and beyond. Are you someone who could become a President? Win an Oscar? A CEO? Colleges use your extracurriculars, application essays, and your letters of recommendation to judge these qualities.
Colleges look at various scores (SAT/ACT scores, GPA/transcript, class rank, and other test scores) to judge your readiness to attend their school. Are you prepared to handle the rigor of their classes?
Next important thing is to really know the journey you want to take, what you are interested in. have you thought through few directions you want to take while at the university? How do you plan to add diversity to the class? What would you do in-class and out of class? Why do you deserve a seat? Now having said that, its possible that you may not know everything, but they will judge you whether or not you have done your homework!
And yes, they can make out! Don’t think that you bluff your way out! So what should you do? Do your homework. Reach out to alums from the university to get first hand inputs. You must choose a place which fits your goals and yes, colleges look for cultural fit. Choosing colleges in a right way can go a long way in making your life easy to begin with.

- Explore: Explore and reach out to alums to adjudge what is it that the school is offering, how can you stand out, how can you add value.
- Curate your story: Write your story, it should be authentic and it should be goal oriented. It should showcase your abilities and how, you can prove to be a great value add for the college!
